Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could enable the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can anticipate learning which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
